Abstract: | Water scarcity and the increasing contamination of water resources are driving the use of alternative sources, such as the use of treated effluents. This study aims to demonstrate the combination of ozonation and reverse osmosis, at pilot scale, in batch and in continuous operation, to produce water to be used in the brewing industry. This solution sets a new paradigm of water use by testing a sound technology for water supply from treated wastewater. This pilot study aims to assess the impact of different operating conditions on the final water quality, checked against drinking water quality standards and for contaminants of emerging concern (e.g., pharmaceutical compounds, and multiple pathogens). To this end, 3000 L of water have been produced and used for craft beer production and a 24/7 study will be conducted until July 2022. |
