Abstract: The National Laboratory of Civil Engineering and Mota-Engil celebrated a Protocol, which aims to valorise the fines originated from the aggregates explored by Mota-Engil in two granite quarries, in the north of Portugal. The main goal of the Protocol is to promote the valorization of these materials in geotechnical engineering, and therefore, contribute to the implementation of the principle of sustainable construction in the country. In this study, some of the results obtained in the scope of the first phase of the investigation program, which aimed the exhaustive laboratorial characterization of the fines (classical chemical properties and geoenvironmental, mineralogical, physical, hydraulic and mechanical) are indicated. The presentation and discussion of the mechanical characterization is privileged, in particular, the results related to deformability and mechanical resistance.
