Abstract: The middle continental shelf between Sines and Setubal was surveyed with a high resolution sparker system. The objective was twofold: understand the sedimentological framework, and identify the structural imprint on the shelf’s morphology. Based on acoustic parameters and facies, seven seismic formations were identified. The deeper formations seem to correspond to Mesozoic syn-rift marine units and include the Sines volcanic complex. These are overlain by more recent formations that are compatible with the Cenozoic infill of the West Iberia margin, characterized by thick detrital sequences. All the major stratigraphic units display evidence of complex structural history, including tectonic inversion. Such reactivation was most likely associated with the alpine orogeny
