Abstract: This document constitutes a Deliverable of Action B4 “Long-term demonstration and optimization of PAC/MF” of the LIFE Hymemb Project (LIFE12 ENV/PT/001154). This report addresses the long-term demonstration and optimization of the hybrid process of powdered activated carbon (PAC)/ceramic microfiltration (MF). An intensive testing of PAC/MF technology was conducted through a long-term operation (> 1.5 years) of a prototype in Alcantarilha water treatment plant, with feed water from different points of the treatment sequence, to identify PAC/MF optimal pre-treatment and optimize the PAC/MF operating conditions. Several spiking tests with pharmaceuticals compounds, cyanotoxins and pesticides addition to natural waters were conducted to evaluate the process efficiency.
