Report on pilot testing

Abstract

This document constitutes a Deliverable of Action B.5 “Pilot demonstration of the chemically enhanced treatment in case studies I & II”, one of the actions of project LIFE Impetus - Improving current barriers for controlling pharmaceutical compounds in urban wastewater treatment plants (LIFE14 ENV/PT/000739). Action B5 was set to explore different cost-effective and low-capex solutions for enhanced removal of pharmaceutical compounds, focusing the addition of powdered activated carbon (PAC) to the primary clarification step and, particularly, the PAC dosing to the conventional activated sludge-reactor. Those solutions were demonstrated at pilot scale in 3 prototypes and this report summarizes all the activities developed including the pilot-scale demonstrations, laboratory tests and the modelling for assisting the pilots’ demonstration and the preparation of the full-scale PAC demo.
