Abstract: The rehabilitation of old railway lines is a complex, costly and long process, causing train service delays and interruptions. Trackbed reinforcement through injection of binders without removing track elements can minimise this problem. Thus, a research project is underway in Portugal to contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges that these reinforcement techniques imply and to develop an industrial reinforcement using short columns. This work presents preliminary results of the laboratorial and numerical studies regarding the characterisation of soil-binder mixtures and the dynamic train-track interaction. The results seem promising though further studies are necessary.
