Abstract: This paper presents a semi-analytical method for the study of two dimensional steel structures made of linear members. The control variables are the cross section's global deformations. This model allies the efficiency of the "cross section models" with the exigencies for an efficient analysis, taking in account the influences of hardening and residual stresses, and the effects of the yielding evolution along the structural members' cross sections and length. The model's main hypothesis and the general formulation are presented on the first chapters. The analytical expressions for the cross section efforts and stiffness matrix calculation are presented, in a non dimensional form, for the particular case of a rectangular cross section. Finally, the model's results are compared with experimental and analytical results taken from literature.
