Abstract: | "Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play a key role in the overall urban water cycle by controlling urban contaminants and thus preventing their release in the environment. During the LIFE IMPETUS project (LIFE14/ENV/PT/000739) we developed and tested novel powdered activated carbons (PACs) for improved control of PhCs and organic matter (OM) in urban WWTPs with conventional activated sludge (CAS) treatment. The lab-scale experimental data in single- and multi-solute conditions in will allow benchmarking our engineered biomass-derived PACs with golden commercial PACs in scenarios with varying amounts of EfOM. Through advanced data modelling, this approach allows estimating the PAC dose required for a given removal of the target-PhCs in urban watewater treatment." |
