Abstract: | Awarded for the first time in 1902, the Valmor Prize is one of the most prestigious architecture awards in Portugal. The need to protect the buildings that date back to the beginning of the 20th century, leads to a strategy of intervention carrying out adequate methodologies that must support the selection of repair and substitutive compatible materials. The aim of this study is the knowledge of the building materials employed and their state of conservation, namely the rendering mortars and concrete employed in the buildings awarded. The study of these characteristics will allow the understanding of the evolution of constrained degradation in a given period and constructive context, as well as providing rehabilitation solutions (e.g. compatibility of construction materials, prevention of degradation). In this paper some of these aspects referring to a range of buildings awarded with the Valmor Prize are presented. |
