Abstract: This communication analyses the possibility of use of air curtains approximately vertical to prevent the smoke flow to outside of fire compartments through vertical permanent slots (doors). Computational simulations have been developed, using the program Fire Dynamics Simulator, where several conditions relevant to smoke-tightness have been adopted. It was concluded that it is possible to obtain smoke-tightness through the adjustment of the parameters of the plane jet, in association with smoke exhaust from the compartment.
